die lobby ist sehr beeindruckend – und kann natürlich auch ohen zimmerbuchung besucht werden.
today i would like to show you the hotel where we stayed for our london trip: the cumberland. directly at the marble arch.
searching for a hotel in london wasn’t very easy. very quick i’ve noticed that there is only one thing you really need in london: money! but we wanted to enjoy a nice and relaxing weekend so we were looking for a good hotel. it’s easy to get a sleazy hotel for a lot of money. aber after weeks of searching all recommendations of different blogs and all booking websites, i finally found a good bargain at the cumberland – a hotel of the guoman group. of course i would have loved to stay at one of those little nice and cozy hotels but honestly when you see the photos and you have no clue how far away from the next busstation it is, you don’t book there. today i know it better. of course. 🙂
but anyway – for our first stay in london it was a good decision to choose the cumberland. it’s really right next the underground station marble arch (upstairs turn right into the lobby). and at oxford street with it’s shops, the hyde park with a bicycle station and bus stops. you can reach all of it within under a minute walk.
the lobby is very impressive – and of course you can visit it without booking a room there.
we have booked a standard room. it was a little bit tiny and the view was… hmmm… there are better ones, right? 😉 but of course we haven’t been at london for the view.
the room was functional, clean and the bathroom was okay. the shower was huge. but the reception for the tele was very bad (yes, frau s. likes to watch tele when she is in hotels), but at least there was free wi-fi. i can recommend to spent a little bit more money to get a higher standard room. it’s worth doing it.
and we have booked breakfast because we didn’t like to run around in the morning trying to find a good cup of coffee. the breakfast was unbelievable! but more impressive have been the people because i was stunned how much they can eat in the morning! freshly made omlettes, beans and bacon, salad, cereals, sweet stuff…. the best for me was the banana-apple-smoothie. i didn’t need more (but of course i had to try most of the other stuff as well). unfortunately only for a smoothie the breakfast is quite expensive. and the breakfast room is quite noisy.
next time i would book without breakfast because just around the corner of the hotel there is pret-a-manger which has everything for a good breakfast. you should try the breakfast at the hotel on a sunday like something special but you won’t need it every day.
all together i was quite nice there and i would book it again. 🙂
übrigens: das ist meine eigene hotelbewertung, ohne dass das cumberland etwas damit zu tun hat!
btw: it’s my own opinion of the hotel without any impact of the cumberland.
